DEVO 18

Wealth Is God’s Design

Deuteronomy 8:18, You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

There is a misconception among some Christians, and non-Christians, that prosperity or being wealthy is sinful. On the contrary, even the Old Testament scripture tells us that it is God who gives us the power to obtain wealth, as a confirmation of the covenant, that He made with our fathers in the faith (Deuteronomy 8:18). In the New Testament, Proverbs11:25, reminds us that the generous will be prosper, and when we give plenty to others, we will be given plenty. Wealth within the body of Christ makes a significant impact on the local community, a nation’s economy, and the world. Without wealth we are unable to feed the hungry, give to the poor, or are for the orphans and widows.

The Bible does NOT say that money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10-19 warns us not to be so eager for money that we turn against the faith, become greedy, arrogant, or put our hope in wealth. We are to put our hope in God, do good, be rich in good deeds, and be generous and willing to share. This is God’s intent for our lives. Our desire should be that every believer prospers and be in good health even as their soul prospers (3 John 2). It’s not a sin to pray for prosperity for yourself or for others, especially when it’s for the advancement of God’s cause and His kingdom.
