DEVO Day 13

Restore Relationships

Today as you continue in this fast and prayer ask the Holy Spirit to help you restore any of your relationships that you know ended in an abrupt way. You may not be angry or hold any ill feeling towards the person but maybe you feel as if they are upset with you. Sometimes the enemy blinds us into thinking that someone is angry at us, or you have done something wrong to them. Walk in boldness today and with help of the Holy Spirit go to that person and say “can we talk”. Don’t be tricked by your own thoughts, it may not be what you think.

On the other hand, maybe it is exactly what you think. They are upset with you or you are upset with them. Either way, the Lord tells us that attempting to make things right is our responsibility. Matthew 23-24 says it like this in the Message Bible, This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.

Wow, God places a priority on restoring our relationships. Let’s take His Word into account and seek a way to get things right when an offense has taken place. The Bible also says in Romans 12:18, “ If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” We realize that sometimes people are unwilling to forgive or the offense may take them some time to fully get over it. We are still to go as soon as possible to make it right, and pray for them.

How many people do you know are not communicating with distant loved ones? Maybe they are waiting on you to make the first move.

Prayer

Father, today we ask you to help us take all of our thoughts captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ. Help us Lord to see all people the way you see them. Help us Lord to be people of reconciliation, restoring all that may have been lost in the relationships with others you have place in our life. We ask You Father to restore a good relationship between the members and thier families, friends, co-workers, and others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Alton A. Allen says:

In this day and age, we are either offending those around us with uncouth words or we’ve been offended by those we thought we could trust. If we’re offended, God will protect us from their stinging words and biting tongues and alleviate their weight from our souls.

If we’re offending, the Lord will purge our spirits of our internal iniquities and restore us to a loving heart and open hand. In both instances, we prevent offense by forgiving one another — just as Christ forgave us on the cross! Turn that offense into a defense that gets you out of your feelings and into your faith!
