Love For My Enemies

By Min Talesha Williams
Luke 6:27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.

Living in a world that seems to be overcast with racism, division, politics, and pandemic differences, would seemingly make it difficult to love your enemies. However, scripture instructs us to do so. You may ask why? The answer remains because the Word of God instructs us to do so. That makes is simple.

As believers, we are to simply follow what the Bible tells us to do.  Remember, these are OUR Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (B.I.B.L.E.). We are not dictated by any political party, nor held to the world’s standards of embracing cancel culture. We are to be counter-cultural. How can we expect the behavior of our enemies to change, if we reflect their actions against us? How can we draw them, if not with the loving-kindness of Christ? We must not speak against them, confront them, or try to belittle them for the things that they do. Our one job is to pray for our enemies. Our prayers have power! They open up our hearts, minds, and souls to a higher dimension. A dimension in which God hears, heaven responds, and angels are released on assignment. Our prayers have the ability to soften the hearts of our enemies.

You may never know how or when your enemy is watching. Satan would like for us to believe that they are only watching to see us commit sin, react in fear, or live hypocritically. However, the Bible tells us that the world (creation) is watching to see the sons of God revealed (Romans 8:19). They are watching to see how we respond in faith, operate out of love, live righteously, and still hope, despite facing the same issues and situations that are thrown at them. Let’s be that example. Let’s be the light in the midst of darkness. Let’s let our lights so shine before men, so that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

PRAYER: Father God, we love You and thank You for the opportunity to come to You each day. We come in obedience to your Word, to pray for and intercede on the behalf of our enemies. Lord, bless our enemies and shower them with Your love. Cause their eyes, hearts, and minds to open and receive you as Lord and Savior of their lives. Continue to place examples of righteousness, faithfulness, mercy, and grace before them. God, we declare that as we pray, Your presence and power would be revealed to our enemies, and deliverance, salvation and restoration will be released, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. We pray for grace and forgiveness to flow through the body of Christ, so that more souls may be won for the kingdom. Let our lives be a witness to our enemies and cause them to repent, turn from their wicked ways, and proclaim that Jesus is Lord! Father, we know that is Your desire for all to embrace the grace of walking in the love and sanctification of Christ. Let that be the desire of the saints as well.  We love You and give You praise in advance for all that You are doing and will do, in and through the lives of our enemies.

In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
