Daily Devo: Day 1Love For God: The Heart of the MatterLuke 10:25-37
As Christ-followers, we are commanded to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind and to love our neighbor in like manner. Luke 10:25-27 is a perfect illustration of that love. It is an account of a critic (expert in the Law) who is testing Jesus by inquiring how to inherit eternal life & who is his neighbor. Even though Jesus knew the critic’s motives were sinister, Jesus did not brush him off but instead engaged him in an honest and heartfelt response. Jesus masterfully explains the parable of the Good Samaritan and He also affirmed the critic for his insight into the truth and affirmed that loving God and his neighbors is a great summary of God’s law given through Moses. However, Jesus reminded the critic and us as well, that the heart of God’s truth is not just knowing it but doing it. God’s blessing comes when we put His truth into practice. That is exactly what we are doing in this time of consecration. As we embark upon this inaugural day of our 21 days of fasting and prayer, we seek to demonstrate this standard of love for God and others even more.
Prayer: Lord helps us to know your will and treasure it. Even more, dear God, give us the courage, conviction, and compassion to put your truth into practice.
In Jesus’s mighty name, Amen.
